How to Prepare for Your Massage

How to Prepare for Your Massage

Massage works best when your body and mind are ready to receive it. A few thoughtful preparations can transform your session from pleasant to profoundly restorative. Think of this as tuning your body before the music begins.

Arrive Calm and Unhurried

Rushing creates tension. Try to arrive at Emerald Spa on time (no more than ten minutes early though) to allow your body to settle. Sit quietly, breathe deeply, and let your pulse slow before the treatment starts. We will invite you for a complimentary drink.

Communicate with Your Therapist

Inform your therapist of any medical conditions, recent injuries, or areas of discomfort: It is your responsibility to do it. Massage is most effective when it is tailored to your current physical state. Don’t hesitate to mention preferences for pressure or temperature. It is also helpful, during massage to let the therapist know if something feels good! In general though, during the massage, it is a time for quiet and relax. It’s not like being at the hairdresser, or getting a car repaired! You may chant with the therapist before and after the session about anything you want to talk about. During the session, focus communication on the massage itself.

Avoid Heavy Meals and Alcohol

A light meal two hours before your appointment is ideal. Alcohol or caffeine can interfere with circulation and hydration, making massage less comfortable. Water or herbal tea are better choices. Note that we do not admit clients who are heavily under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances.

Disconnect and Be Present

Switch off your phone and remove jewellery. Massage is an opportunity to unplug, reconnect with yourself, and focus on sensation and breath. Treat it as a form of moving meditation.

At Emerald Spa, preparation is part of the ritual. From the moment you step through the door, every element—from scent to sound—invites you into a state of mindful rest.
