Can Children Use the Sauna?

Yes—when practised safely, sauna bathing can be beneficial for children. It helps strengthen immunity, supports circulation, and teaches healthy body awareness. However, certain adjustments are essential to ensure comfort and safety.

Temperature and Duration

Children are more sensitive to heat, so keep the temperature around 60–70 °C and limit time inside to 5–8 minutes. One short round followed by gentle cooling is usually sufficient. Never encourage competition or endurance.

Hydration and Observation

Make sure the child is well hydrated and feels free to leave the sauna at any moment. Watch for early signs of overheating—flushed skin, tiredness, or dizziness—and end the session immediately if they appear.

Creating a Positive Experience

Introduce the sauna gradually, treating it as a calm family ritual rather than an obligation. Children who learn to associate heat and relaxation with care and trust often continue healthy habits into adulthood.

At Emerald Spa, family sessions are designed to educate as well as relax—instilling respect for the body and the timeless wisdom of warmth and rest. Contact us for our next mothers and children session or organise one yourself with friends or just family.
